Abcoude is located in a rural area and very conveniently located in relation to Amsterdam, Amstelveen, Utrecht and Schiphol. The Zuidas, Amsterdam South and Stadshart Amstelveen are a 15-minute drive away. From

NS Station Abcoude runs a train 4 times an hour during rush hour to Amsterdam (12 minutes to Amstel Station), Utrecht and Rotterdam. Various bus lines to Utrecht, Amsterdam and Mijdrecht run regularly, also especially for secondary school students.

Abcoude is characterized by a cozy historic center, nice shops and restaurants with beautiful terraces, including at De Eendracht. There are many village activities, including the famous Abcouder festival week, a weekly market and the Pure Market (known from Amsterdam), a theater, a wide range of sports facilities including hockey, football, golf, a new indoor swimming pool and the Abcouder Ice Club on the Fort. There are 4 primary schools and sufficient professional childcare.

There is great recreation in the immediate area. The area around Abcoude is popular with hikers, cyclists and water sports enthusiasts. There are beautiful cycling and walking routes along the waters of the Angstel and the Gein (with organic regional shop Anna Haen). On (or in) the Abcoudermeer or at the recreational beach De Hoge Dijk it is nice to spend a summer day. The Vinkeveense Plassen and Ouderkerk aan de Amstel are within cycling distance. For many, the atmosphere and village character are the reason why Abcoude is so popular to live in.
